Proses persalinan seringkali dianggap sakit dan melelahkan, namun sebuah studi baru menemukan proses ini juga dapat memberikan kenikmatan berupa orgasme. Meraih orgasme selama persalinan dianggap membantu mengurangi rasa sakit.
Menurut studi yang dimuat dalam jurnal Sexologies ini, orgasme dapat menghalangi area otak yang membentuk rasa sakit. Posisi bayi saat dilahirkan kemungkinan memberikan penekanan pada organ seksual. Orgasme tersebut terjadi sekitar 0,3 persen dari total jumlah persalinan.
Profesor psikologi di Rutgers University, New Jersey, Barry Komisaruk mengatakan, saat proses persalinan terjadi rangsangan di jalan lahir, leher rahim, vagina, kritoris, dan uterus.
"Banyak orang mengatakan mengatakan, kontraksi uterus terasa nikmat saat terjadinya orgasme," ungkap Komisaruk.
Hal yang senada juga diungkapkan oleh penulis studi dr. Christiane Northup. Ia mengatakan, ketika bayi keluar dari jalan lahir, posisinya sama seperti posisi penis masuk ke vagina yang memungkinkan terjadinya orgasme.
Lantaran terjadi rangsangan di organ-organ seksual, tubuh wanita pun mengalami reaksi kimia yang sama seperti terangsang secara seksual. Endorfin dan hormon cinta oksitoksin yang diproduksi selama orgasme juga ditemukan selama persalinan.
Selain itu, wanita juga dapat mengalami orgasme multipel yang bertahan masing-masing 10 hingga 15 detik. Komisaruk dan timnya menemukan rangsangan seksual dan orgasme mengurangi sensitivitas terhadap rasa sakit, maka wanita dapat lebih mudah menjalani proses persalinan.
